مشاركThe Brazil international is out of contract at the end of the season and Hertha want the 31-year-old to sign an extension.
He was linked with Manchester United last week and was coy regarding any interest from the Premier League champions.
Gilberto conceded he had not decided on whether to stay with Hertha, or move to England, Portugal, or even return to Brazil.
However, it now appears that he could be heading to the Premier League with Spurs understood to be piecing together a deal.
A fee of £2.5million has been mooted for Gilberto, who joined Hertha in 2004 and has been a Bundesliga regular.
Spurs are currently short on options at left-back, with Gareth Bale and Benoit Assou-Ekotto both out with long-term injuries.
South Korean defender Lee Young-pyo is Juande Ramos’ first choice, but may soon face competition for his place from Gilberto

مشاركThe Germany international has fallen down the Bavarian club’s striking pecking order this season, having to play second fiddle to the likes of Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni.
Podolski is thought to be worried about his prospects of being called-up to Germany’s European Championship squad given his lack of playing time this term.
Bayern had initially been reticent to sanction Podolski’s exit, but general manager Uli Hoeness now concedes a temporary parting of ways could benefit both parties.
He added: “I want to help him to make it to the European Championships.
“And if we loan him out and everything goes well, we have done everything right.
Exit possible
“Then we have got him games and he comes back on July 1.”
Bayern boss in-waiting Jurgen Klinsmann is known to be an admirer of a player he worked with during his days as coach of the national side and he would be loath to allow a permanent departure.
However, it does now look as though Podolski could be spending between now until the campaign’s close away from the Allianz Arena.

مشاركKeegan made a dramatic return as Newcastle manager last week and opted to hand Michael Owen the skipper’s armband for Saturday’s draw with Bolton.
And Keegan has revealed he selected Owen as his on-field leader after Given, who has been at Newcastle since 1997, agreed to the decision.
Keegan told Newcastle’s official website: “I told Shay I would like Michael to lead it from the front and he said; ‘fine I totally understand. I’ve got no problems with that’.
“I looked at the players I had, and I honestly believed Michael was the most experienced player on the pitch, along with Shay.”
And Keegan has hinted that Owen will be named captain for the long-term as he bids to clear up all speculation regarding a previous rift with the striker.
“I think we’ll leave it (the captaincy) with him at the moment, and if he comes to me and says he enjoys it, then we can look at it longer term,” Keegan concluded.

مشاركThe players’ agent Pavel Paska was at Loftus Road to discuss a potential move with the club’s co-owner Flavio Briatore last week and is confident that an agreement can be reached.
Cerny has been preferred to England keeper Paul Robinson of late making eight appearances for the club in all competitions this season.
The Czech international is at White Hart Lane on a long-term loan deal from Slavia Prague but that contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
Czech Under 21 international striker Pekhart has impressed for the club’s youth team and it is felt that the opportunity to play regular football at a competitive standard would help his development.
Possible deal
“QPR want to capture both players in the January transfer window,” Paska said on the International Sport Management website.
“Radek’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer, while Pekhart could leave on a six-month loan with an option for a permanent move at a later date
.”

مشاركOn-loan defender Davenport was carried off after suffering the injury during Watford’s 1-1 draw with Charlton on Saturday when striker Darius Henderson landed on him.
The West Ham player was making his debut for the Hornets after his move from Upton Park, but the injury has led to the termination of his loan spell.
Observation
A statement on Watford’s official website confirmed: “X-rays and scans showed that although he was safe to be moved, he would stay in a private hospital overnight where he could be kept under observation for the next few days.
“Watford have been in close contact with West Ham United since the incident and would like to thank them for their co-operation in the matter.
“The club would also like to give a special thanks to the stretcher bearers who ensured that Calum left the playing field in a safe and correct manner.”
After the game, Boothroyd said: “Calum heard a crack in his neck and he lost the sensation in his fingers and he is in the hospital now.
“When it is a neck injury you have to get him off the pitch straight away and we hope it is not too bad.”

مشاركEarlier this month, the Spurs striker revealed that he had been told he could leave the club by Ramos.
But, after captaining the side in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sunderland, Defoe confirmed he has held further talks with the manager regarding his future at the club.
“I suppose these things happen in football,” Defoe told reporters in reference to his earlier conversation with Ramos.
Honest
“People say things when they are a little bit down or upset. He pulled me into his office and said he didn’t mean it. He was honest with me.
“He said he wanted me to stay at this club and get goals, and said he wanted to achieve something special. He is a good manager with great ideas, so it’s good.
“I said to him, ‘What do you think? Am I part of it?’ He said, ‘Yes, you are definitely part of it. If you get a chance, take it’.
“There are four top forwards here and I understand that. The competition is hard and if you get a chance you have to take it.
“Maybe at the time, by saying I could go, it was psychology, but it’s something I don’t think about. I just want to do my best for the team.”
Special
The England striker also admitted to feeling ’embarrassed’ about being made captain for the weekend’s win over Sunderland.
He added: “I suppose being given the captaincy was a gesture. For me it was special.
“I was a bit embarrassed to get the armband and to captain a big club like this is amazing.”

مشاركTowards the end of United’s 2-0 win at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, Ferguson gestured in the direction of the Reading dug-out.
It has prompted reports that the FA could examine the incident following allegations the United chief also made obscene hand movements to the home crowd after Wayne Rooney’s opening goal.
But, speaking in Saudi Arabia ahead of a friendly game on Monday night, Ferguson downplayed the incident, insisting he was ‘expressing his relief’.
“All I was doing was expressing my relief at winning what was one of our hardest matches of the season,” said Ferguson. “Reading always make it tough for us.
“We ran so much that we clocked up more kilometres than we have in any game this season.”
Intimidates
Reading boss Steve Coppell said of the incident: “I’ve known him for many years and he hasn’t lost any of his fire and he hasn’t mellowed.
“He intimidates more than enough people and you have to respond to intimidation.
“But any argument with Wally Downes would definitely have been a catch-weight contest.
“Alex wasn’t very happy about the amount of time the referee added on.”

مشاركRichardson hurt his hamstring during training last week and was forced out of the weekend defeat at Spurs.
The news came as a real blow to Sunderland as Richardson has only just returned from a back problem, and during that time made a huge impact with three goals in five games.
“Kieran will be out for about three weeks, he’s damaged his hamstring but that’s life and you have to get on with the challenge,” said Black Cats boss Roy Keane.
“We seem to take one step forward and two back at the moment, whether that be football results or injuries. We’re missing Grant (Leadbitter), he is out for two to three weeks with a broken toe. Danny Higginbotham is out for four to six weeks. That is the challenge we face.
“Kieran is one of our more quality players but I felt the players that came in on Saturday did a good job. But a player like Kieran, and Kenwyne Jones and even Carlos Edwards, we miss that quality without a doubt.
“We’ll persevere. Perseverance is possibly the biggest word you can use in football. You get setbacks and the result on Saturday was a disappointment but life goes on and makes the next match even bigger.”

مشاركBenjani Mwaruwari hit a hat-trick to help Pompey to a 3-1 Premier League win over Derby at the weekend, but Redknapp is still looking to add firepower to his squad.
David Nugent has failed to settle on the South Coast since his summer move from Preston and Redknapp has been linked with moves for Lyon duo Fred and Milan Baros.
Former Liverpool and Aston Villa forward Baros looks to be Redknapp’s best bet as the Czech striker has fallen out of favour with Lyon manager Alain Perrin and Fred appears keen to remain in France.
Difficult
Redknapp, though, confesses he is finding it difficult to tempt a forward to join Pompey as they bid to continue their pursuit of a place in Europe.
“I think the squad needs another frontman, because we are short,” Redknapp said in The Sun.
“Getting a frontman in is the key it would give us a bit of competition up there. I am looking but they are not easy to find.”
Meanwhile, Redknapp claims he had no such problems in convincing Lassana Diarra, who made his debut in the victory over Derby, to join Pompey.
Transfer talks
Redknapp, who was approached for the vacant Newcastle manager’s job before Kevin Keegan took over, says that after holding talks with the former Arsenal midfielder the £4million move was never in doubt.
“He (Diarra) had offers from Newcastle, Aston Villa and Manchester City – all big clubs,” Redknapp added.
“I met him and to be honest if I had gone to Newcastle I think he would have gone there because I got on well with him.”

مشاركThe 26-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle all linked.
“Of course I want to play in England,” stated the Russian captain when asked about the interest.
Arshavin’s club Zenit St Petersburg, who won the Russian championship last season, are keen for him to stay but their director of sport Konstantin Sarsania has confirmed there is interest in him.
Interest
Sarsania admitted that both Newcastle and Everton had been tracking him.
“Newcastle, Everton and Marseille were interested in Arshavin. Also a few other European football agents asked us about terms of his transfer. But we didn’t receive any official offer,” he told the Russian press.
“Also I know that Newcastle and Everton scouts visited our games to watch Andrei.”
Zenit have already sold Martin Skrtel to Liverpool during this month and Arshavin is hoping he will follow his former team-mate to Britain.
“Arshavin is well known in Europe by many great European clubs,” his agent Pavel Andreev told Arshavin’s official website.
“We have actually transferred power of attorney so that we can let an English agency do the serious negotiations.
“They will communicate the interest with any clubs for Andrei and once we have information we will report it.”
Andreev admitted there was interest from British clubs but he would not confirm their identities.

مشاركO’Neill takes his side to Anfield on Monday night hoping to secure a win which would see Villa overtake Liverpool in the league.
However ahead of the game, O’Neill has offered support for under-pressure Liverpool boss Benitez and believes the Spaniard deserves credit on Merseyside.
Benitez has seen his future thrown into doubt following lacklustre form this season and an unsettled relationship with the club’s American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Criticism
O’Neill, though, insists criticism of Benitez is misplaced after he became the first Liverpool manager to deliver the European Cup since 1984 as the Reds famously defeated Milan on penalties in the UEFA Champions League final in 2005.
“It would be nice to be criticised like Benitez for only winning the Champions League and not the Premier League. I wouldn’t mind that sort of criticism,” O’Neill told The Sun.
“I know Sir Alex Ferguson is disappointed he’s only won it once at Manchester United, but once would be nice.”
Meanwhile, O’Neill is adamant he does not suffer any problems with Villa’s American owner Randy Lerner.
Big plans
“I don’t think Randy’s plans have changed. He has the club at heart. This is not a plaything. He is really genuine about this club,” O’Neill added.
“I have got to know him better now because he comes over so often. He will be here for the Liverpool game and he is as enthusiastic now as he was when he took over.
“He has big plans for the club itself. I don’t think he has any intention of selling the football club to try and make a profit.”

مشاركReports have claimed that the Belgium international is among the players new Magpies boss Kevin Keegan is looking to sign before the close of the transfer window.
Van Buyten’s future with Bayern is uncertain, with the centre-half struggling to secure regular football this season.
He recently admitted that he may be interested in a switch to Scottish champions Celtic, while Premier League clubs are also in his trail.
The former Marseille stopper played under Keegan at Manchester City after spending the second half of the 2003/04 season with the club.
Appreciated
And, according to his representative Christophe Henrotay, a reunion with Keegan at St James’ Park would not be ruled out.
“Daniel would like to carry on doing his job at Bayern, but I have said to Kevin, ‘Anything can happen, the truth today is not the truth tomorrow’,” said Henrotay in The Guardian.
“And Daniel appreciated Kevin’s management at Manchester City.”

مشاركCampbell’s absence from the 3-1 win over Derby sparked rumours about the veteran defender’s future at Fratton Park.
There have been suggestions that the England international rowed with Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie in the week leading up to the game.
It was claimed that the former Arsenal centre-half had stormed out and asked to be allowed to link up with Newcastle.
Rubbish
But a Pompey spokesman played down the speculation and attributed Campbell’s absence at the weekend to a back injury.
“It’s quite simple,” said the spokesman in The Sun. “Sol had a back problem and he’s been having treatment on it all week.
“We hoped he would be fit, but he couldn’t make it.
“I spoke to Peter Storrie about it and he laughed and said it was rubbish.”

مشاركAdebayor took his tally in the league this season to 15 after a brace in Arsenal’s 3-0 win at Fulham on Saturday.
He is currently two behind Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo in the race to end the campaign as the division’s leading marksman.
But, rather than chase individual glory, Adebayor is focused on helping the Gunners to wrestle the title off United.
And, while the Togo ace admits to being disappointed to not be starring in the African Cup of Nations, he outlined his happiness in England.
Positive
“I’d love to be in Ghana, but I have to be positive, so I will settle for my goals, three points for Arsenal and enjoying myself in England,” Adebayor told reporters.
“I’ll just keep chasing the goals.
“If I finish top scorer in the Premier League I’ll be pleased, but my ambition is to win the title.”

مشاركThe centre-back’s current deal expires at the end of the season and a string of impressive performances have drawn admiring glances from elsewhere.
The interest is hardly surprising as Wheater’s rise to prominence this season has seen him become a fixture at the heart of the Boro defence and force his way into the England Under 21 set up.
His manager though feels that he would be wise to ignore the lure of a move to a big club in favour of continuing his development with his home-town side.
Maturity
“David’s having a terrific season,” Southgate said.
“The maturity he has shown and the way he’s standing up to the challenge of playing against top international players will stand him in good stead.
“He’s at a lovely phase in his career where he just goes out and plays and isn’t worried about anything else. It’s great to watch.
“I’m confident he will be signing a new contract, and pretty soon too.
“He’s a Middlesbrough boy and loves playing for the club. We give young players a chance more than other clubs do.”
Top scorer
Wheater grabbed his third goal in 19 Premier League appearances during the 1-1 draw with Blackburn on Saturday and admits that even he is surprised at how well his season has gone so far.
“I can’t really believe how well it’s going for me personally,” he said.
“I didn’t even expect to be here this year. I thought I’d be out on loan.
“But here I am in the team and hopefully I’ll stay there. I could be top scorer the way things are going.
“I’m only one behind Stewart Downing and I’m after him.”
